Legends and Local Spirits Share Their Tales:
"The St. Marys Downtown Merchants’ Association presents the 3rd Annual Haunted History Tour on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 6pm - 9pm in downtown St. Marys.
Blending legends with authentic historical events, professional and amateur storytellers will hold court at ten noteworthy St. Marys sites. Each presenter will be fully costumed to reflect their respective time periods. This year’s cast and locations include a few favorites from prior tours mixed in with chilling new acts. Some hot-spots will feature details from actual paranormal investigations done by the Southern Paranormal Research Society.
Throughout the historic district, guests will be amused by lore such as that of Sam, a faithful servant at Orange Hall, who has lots of points he’d like the living to be aware of. The spirit of Charles Gilman, at the Gilman Boat House, will share his enjoyment of the past and his hope for the future. The evening would not be complete without an ethereal visit from our beloved Resurrection Angel and she’s eager to speak from beyond once again.
Included sites in the 2011 tour are Oak Grove Cemetery, the Memory Garden Gazebo, St. Marys Submarine Museum, Riverview Hotel, the sailing vessel Dream at the Waterfront Pavilion Dock, Gilman Boathouse, Goodbread House, St. Marys Film Museum, Archibald Clark House, and Orange Hall."
Aug. 12th, 2011 we were let into the Gilman house to conduct our investigation. Honestly, I did not have very high hopes that we would find anything here, as it is not a property I've ever heard any stories about.
The only thing I knew is the property was built in a "Frank Lloyd Wright" style, that the owner of the property was a flamboyent son of the owner of the paper mill, Howard Gilman. Mr. Gilman, I was told was a celebrity of sorts, very rich and had the place built in order to entertain guests, that he himself never lived in the large house.
I do know that the prior history of the property was an old Timicquana camp site. Knowing very little else about this property, I was very surprised to find activity in the building.
I was very surprised to see how much activity there was in that house before we ever set foot in it.
Close up of the front windows, where you can see many entities peering out the windows at me.
The Gilman house is all one level... but sprawling and huge! It had at lleast 6 bathrooms and a modern stainless steel kitchen...way ahead of it's time considering when the home was built...
White on one side and a bright Salmon color on the back made this home REALLY easy to spot!
The house is too large to get all in one shot
This was the back of the Gilman Boathouse... it was really quite large... very deceptive from the outside...on the inside there was no furniture and it looked like repairs were being made... doors off their hinges, ceiling tiles on the floor where the roof has leaked and just some general trash... otherwise empty.
The small room to the far right was surprisingly active! Close up to the right
There was NOTHING in this little room other than the door, off it's hinges a lying up against the wall. Nothing in that window at all.
In this very same room, the night of the investigation, we were able to connect with watever entity was in the house... it would answer yes and no questions on command, by turning a same flash light on and off. Six of us in this room witnessed the interection for approx. 20 minutes before it stopped. Interestingly enough, I took a photo the day before looking through the glass into that room, see the result below!
I think this photo is amazing... there is no sun shining in the room, so it is not projecting a sun flare... also if you look closely, there is a dark figure in the doorway as well as a mist at the top of the doorway leading into this room....
There was a lot more going on in this place than I ever would have though possible
I do not know what was going on in this place, or why it was so haunted... for several weeks after we investigated this place, several of us had terrifying nightmares about this place. That can be indicative of a negative haunting or demon. Even though it took a few weeks for things to die down and get back to normal, I was still sad to see that the city went ahead with plans and bull dozed the house down. Now there is nothing left but land and marsh view. Such a shame, I would have loved to have done another investigation there.
